Chamber · Foundation

Start with what holds you.

Before optimisation comes foundation. Rest, food, movement, daylight, safety, connection and appropriate care often matter before anything more complicated.

Root of Wellbeing is a quiet room for the conditions that make the rest of the Sanctuary usable.

No score, no streak, no account. Marks stay in this browser tab only.

Seven roots

Local-only check

Not a diagnosis

How to use this room

Notice first. Then one small thing.

Arrive with a simple question: what in my basic foundations needs attention today? Leave with one realistic next step, or with the knowledge that some things already look steady.

This is not a diagnosis tool, health score, fitness programme, calorie tracker or therapy substitute. Shift work, caring, disability, neurodivergence, pain, poverty and unsafe housing are real barriers. Nobody self-cares their way out of a structural problem.

Difficult-day mode

What if I have almost no energy?

If today is a low-capacity day, the whole Root can shrink. That can be enough for now.

No moralising. One of these is a complete day if that is the true capacity:

  • One drink.
  • Something to eat.
  • Medication as prescribed.
  • A toilet trip.
  • A message to someone.
  • Opening the curtain.
  • Calling for help.

A one-minute return

Contact, orient, choose.

No breath retention, no forced breathing, and no claim that this resets a nervous system. It is only a way to come back to the room.

Contact. Feel one stable point of contact: feet, seat, hands or back.
Orient. Notice three neutral things around you.
Choose. Choose one next action small enough to complete: drink, eat, rest, message someone or seek help.

Seven roots

Open only what you need.

Each root stays closed until you ask. Together they are a map, not a test.

This chamber helps you notice foundations. It does not diagnose, score mental health, recommend medication changes, or replace qualified care. If you have persistent symptoms, severe distress, pain, fainting, breathing difficulty or a significant change in health, seek qualified assessment. In immediate danger call 999. For urgent medical advice use NHS 111. Breath practices, if you use them elsewhere, should never be forced.

Evidence, kept in proportion

Public claims sit with public sources.

This page does not replace NHS or NICE guidance. If a detail is uncertain, treat the linked source as stronger than ARC copy.

Sleep difficulty, tiredness and when to see a GP: NHS insomnia (opens in a new tab) and NHS tiredness (opens in a new tab).

Everyday food, not a personal diet: NHS Eat Well (opens in a new tab).

Movement in inclusive terms, including that small amounts count: UK Chief Medical Officers’ physical activity guidelines (opens in a new tab).

Urgent routes: 999 and NHS 111 (opens in a new tab). Practical tools live in Practical Help, not as a second emergency directory here.
